Dr. Ying Lu

Professor at the University of Toronto Medical School & Scarborough Health Network, Head of Ophthalmology and Chief Ophthalmologist

Dr. Lu graduated from Queen’s University with M.D and M.Sc in 1994, completed her five- year Ophthalmology specialty training at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Toronto with six months Glaucoma subspecialty training under leading glaucoma specialists at Toronto Western Hospital. 2015, Dr. Lu performed the first Laser Cataract surgery at the Toronto Scarborough Hospital, the first Laser cataract surgery done in an Ontario Province Public Hospital. She was one of the first ophthalmologists in North America to implant multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs). Now, Dr. Lu is the Head of the Ophthalmology Division at the Scarborough Health Network and a Professor at the University Of Toronto. 

In 2019, Dr. Lu was awarded the Ontario Volunteer Service Award by the Ontario Government for her long-standing volunteerism. 2022, Dr. Lu received Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Award for her outstanding public service and significant contribution to the community. For Dr. Lu’s achievements and contribution to Canadian society, she was recognized and selected to be included in the Official Canadian Who’s Who Book along with other 10,000 most prominent Canadians from the past 150 years of Canadian history.

Mr. George Chiang

Stage Playwright and Producer

George Chiang is a writer, playwright, producer, and actor best known for creating the internationally acclaimed musical Golden Lotus, which won the Heckler’s Award for Best Original Work in Hong Kong. A live capture of the musical, presented in feature film format, has garnered over 60 international film awards.

As a songwriter, director, and producer, George has received multiple awards for Best Song and Best Music Video, including recognition for the remix of A World Away. His stage performances include productions at the Stratford Festival and the National Arts Centre, as well as world premieres such as Salesman in China and Bachelor Man at Tarragon Theatre. George has also appeared in leading and supporting roles in film and television, including Disney’s Eloise at the Plaza and American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars.
